PostSubject: Postpone the decision   Postpone the decision EmptyWed 04 Mar 2009, 5:22 pm

I am urging all district officials to postpone making a decision on any of the proposals.
These discussion boards show that notification of Proposals 1 and 2 should have been released many months ago. Officials may have known 5 years ago about this plan, but it is clear that the rest of the SCSD did not know the particulars of HOW this would happen.
Far too much weight has been given to the comfort level of Howe Magnet School students and parents, while showing little or no regard for the needs of the rest of the district's elementary and middle school students.
Committees comprised of district parents, staff, and officials should discuss if this reorganization is necessary, and if so, what the configuration should be. Input is needed from the whole community, face to face with district officials, which has not happened with the two proposals. Perhaps then, a proposal could emerge for the school year 2010-2011. What is the rush?
Members of every family and school that is affected by this proposal must attend the BOE meeting tonight at LINCOLN SCHOOL on Robinson Street. Otherwise you will have no one to blame but yourselves for not taking a stand. (Arrive early because parking is at a premium)
We owe that to all the district's children so that each and every one of them will have the same quality education in comfortable settings that we would want for our own children.

I agree that we should all attend and voice our concerns. This decision is simply too important. The meeting tonight is at Lincoln Elementary School at 8 o'clock in the gymnasium. If you wish to speak to the board and those in attendance (for three minutes), you must sign in by 8 o'clock.

You have got to be kidding me people. Putting these out to us sooner would not have changed a thing, it would have just given more time for people to argue about which is better or worse. They even put up the strategic plan and time line and people are still complaining this just goes to show no one is going to be happy no matter what they do. Give them a break and stop with this Howe gets special treatment I’m so tired of that if Howe could hold 7th & 8th grade where it is now there would not have been a discussion it would have just happened, remember, King is going k-8 so why not go start a discussion about that and how that is unfair. Again, why didn’t anyone complain when the magnets added 6th grade first or were people complaining about that too and gee look, just about every school now has 6th added to it.
Let the board just do their job tonight and get this madness over!
