I am urging all district officials to postpone making a decision on any of the proposals.
These discussion boards show that notification of Proposals 1 and 2 should have been released many months ago. Officials may have known 5 years ago about this plan, but it is clear that the rest of the SCSD did not know the particulars of HOW this would happen.
Far too much weight has been given to the comfort level of Howe Magnet School students and parents, while showing little or no regard for the needs of the rest of the district's elementary and middle school students.
Committees comprised of district parents, staff, and officials should discuss if this reorganization is necessary, and if so, what the configuration should be. Input is needed from the whole community, face to face with district officials, which has not happened with the two proposals. Perhaps then, a proposal could emerge for the school year 2010-2011. What is the rush?
Members of every family and school that is affected by this proposal must attend the BOE meeting tonight at LINCOLN SCHOOL on Robinson Street. Otherwise you will have no one to blame but yourselves for not taking a stand. (Arrive early because parking is at a premium)
We owe that to all the district's children so that each and every one of them will have the same quality education in comfortable settings that we would want for our own children.
