Salary Increases

"District employee salaries are increasing by a little over $8 million to a combined total of $80,741,540."

Explain to me why everyone should get a raise. Most people I know are getting laid off, or taking a mandatory pay cut, not receiving raises.

I'm not saying that the teachers and staff don't deserve a raise, they do a great job. I'd rather see less layoffs w/in the district and no raises and no tax increase.

Many times the salary increases you are referring to are contractual increases that have been negotiated with the district.
