According to the Daily Gazette article today: "Board members did not like those cuts and a couple dozen members of the public showed up at Tuesday’s budget work session to protest them. Janiszewski said their view is that programs such as the arts and the International Baccalaureate program are the only things keeping the middle class in Schenectady."
How can the district cut teaching positions and paraprofessionals who directly work with students instead of cutting back a little bit for sports or some of the arts programs. We were a middle class family in Schenectady with two high school students on track for college but it is so disturbing to think about the young children who will no longer have a para in their classrooms and the kids who are struggling academically who will have even less resources for their education, but the middle class families will have IB, the arts and sports. My kids were in some of the IB/AP classes and sports but I would have given it all up in a minute if the district would really try to level the playing field for all students. Unfortunately, in this budget, the kids who struggle will end up further behind.
